    Will I see whales?

Humpback whales come in and out of Taiya Inlet frequently.  Whale sightings are not a guarantee but because we love them so much we are ALWAYS on the look out.  We also on occasion see Orca (aka killer whales) the worlds largest dolphin.  Please let us know if you would like to know more about whale watching while you are in Alaska.

    What's included?

We provide all fishing and safety gear.  Hot drinks, water and simple snacks are also included with all charters.  The only thing you will need is a fishing license which can be purchased on board.  A nonresident 1 day license and king salmon stamp is 30$.  Please bring cash for licenses.

    How should we dress?

Dress for comfort!  We suggest layers because the weather here and Skagway can fluctuate quite a bit.  Expect temperatures in the 60's-70's. Comfortable shoes and a light rain coat (just in case) will come in handy.

What creature comforts can I expect on the boat?

The Choctaw Lady has a warm heated cabin, big viewing windows, comfortable indoor seating and a covered back deck.  This means rain or shine, warm or cool you can be comfortable and dry.  She also has a fully functional marine toilet.

What is the limit? Can I bring my catch home?

The King Salmon limit changes year to year.  This year a non resident is allowed to keep 1 king per day and it has to be at least 28".  You can ship your catch home to your door after you return from your holiday.  The cost works out to be 10-15$ per pound depending on your choice of preparation (fresh fillet, canned, smoked).

How many fish will I catch on my trip?

Anyone who spends time fishing knows that some days the bite is on and sometimes it is not.  We will catch anywhere from 0-20 fish on a trip.  Fishing changes hour by hour.  Sometimes we can go hours without a bite then catch a dozen fish in an hour.  They will not all be keepers but any action on the back deck is fun.  A lucky few will have the kind of day that you see on TV, where we are catching fish like crazy. W e have a few days where we don't get a bite.  Either way fishing in Alaska is awesome and we are all privileged just to have the opportunity to go out and try our luck.

    What is your cancellation policy?

We take a 25% deposit to confirm your booking.  If your plans change and you give us at least 30 days notice then we will refund your deposit.  If we have less than 30 days notice then we will keep your deposit unless we fill your spot with a charter of equal or greater value.  If we cancel due to bad weather than we will refund your deposit.  The trips will go rain or shine but will cancel due to high wind.  Don't worry if it rains! Our back deck is covered and inside is dry and spacious.
